about

Tales Collective is proud to bring you their third release, Monoideism.

Monoideism is a state of prolonged absorption in a single idea. This concept is associated with trance, hypnosis, meditation and focus on individual thoughts.

James Braid started researching about mesmerism to heal people over 200 years ago. He experimented with objects to send people in a different state of consciousness where they could heal by bypassing the natural limitations of the mind. Initially he called it hypnosis (from Hypnos = sleep and osis = condition). He eventually realised that hypnotised people were not sleeping and rather had their minds absorbed in one single thought. This prolonged state of absorbtion induced the altered state.

The EP opens with Ireen Amnes percussive and abrasive club tool 'Prolonged Absorption', followed by End Train's calculated yet mesmerising piece 'Hypnosis', adding complexity and layers to the release. The second part of the EP sees label owners Ossa di Mare and Tapefeed on remixing duties. Ossa completely rework Prolonged Absorption, manipulating it in a dub, slower but still corrosive way, whereas Tapefeed's 'Hypnosis' emphasises End Train's piece while infusing their signature sound into it.
